For the 150 pages of this book I was transported into 19th Century Orkney. It's one of those books whereby someone rings the door bell and I have to remind myself where I am and what year it is.
The story is quaint and the end fits the story - albeit a tad rushed for my liking.
The main reason for not achieving 5 stars is that it felt too short. In my opinion, both the beautiful setting and the multi-layered characters needed more pages to really shine. I felt we only really scratched the surface of these characters and the setting could have been more unequivocal in my mind.
Nonetheless, I will definitely be reading more books from this author as she could make me want to cwtch up under a blanket and read a pamphlet on paint drying.
